The International Federation for the Roofing Trade’s World Championship of Young Roofers will be held Nov. 13-15 in Innsbruck, Austria. NRCA members Global Roofing Group, Phoenix; KPost Company, Dallas; and The Durable Slate Company, Columbus, Ohio, will represent Team USA.
During the competition, which is held every two years, young roofing workers from throughout the world will showcase their skills. The competition aims to promote the roofing trade; demonstrate the achievements of the roofing trade in participating countries; highlight the importance of the roofing trade’s training performance; and strengthen respect for the industry’s professional work.
The U.S is competing for the first time in the competition. Global Roofing Group will compete in the metal roofing category; competitors are Kasey Green and Doug Rojos, and the coach is Shawn Wood. KPost Company Group will compete in the low-slope category; competitors are Marco Espinoza and Alexander Gutierrez, and the coach is Glauco Gutierrez. The Durable Slate Company will compete in the steep-slope category; competitors are Adam Wilcher and Luke Freudiger, and the coach is John Chan. Team USA’s liaison is NRCA Roofing Subject Matter Expert Jon Goodman.
In his November Professional Roofing column, NRCA CEO McKay Daniels said:
“The U.S. team will be installing roof systems while competing against 20 other nation teams. They will be using tools and materials that are foreign to them and an installation method not used by U.S. contractors.
“So stepping forward and going first and being willing to compete in unknown territory is significant. But they are doing it to learn and plow a path for those who follow so it will be a little bit easier in two years for the next Team USA.”
NRCA is proud of Team USA and is looking forward to seeing the team compete at the global level.
Team USA would like to thank its generous sponsors: Carlisle Construction Materials; GAF; Georgia-Pacific; OMG Roofing Products; Owens Corning; and SRS Distribution.
